The Benefits of Native Grasses
Livestock Forage
Native grasslands provide excellent benefits to the rancher, wildlife, and soil health. Cattle as well as other livestock love the nutrient rich grasses that sustained the bison for centuries.
Wildlife & Pollinator Habitat
A diverse mix of native grasses and wildflowers provides an excellent habitat for wildlife and pollinators. Afterall, native plants and native wildlife and pollinators were made for each other.
Landscaping with Wildflower Meadows
Landscaping with native plants brings back nature’s original design. Wildflower meadows create healthy soils, excellent pollinator and wildlife habitat, and natural beauty spring through fall and even into the winter.
Restoration of Prairie, Glades, and Savannas
These native ecosystems were what once covered the landscape and they can be recreated for the many benefits that they provide including soil health, wildlife and pollinators, and beauty.
Our Meat

At Hamilton Native Outpost, the bison are an important part of our seed production. They help remove the weeds from the wildflower fields! By using bison in this way, they decrease the dependency on herbicides, help keep groundcover on the soil, and improve soil health. In turn, the bison have a diverse pasture in which to graze.
This diversity of plants in a grazing animal’s diet, it is coming to be understood, contribute to nutrient density in the meat. It has been understood for a while that meat, regardless of the manner in which it was raised, provides bioavailable protein, zinc, iron, selenium, calcium, and vitamin B12. For meat raised on pasture (as opposed to on a grain rich diet), it also has the health-promoting omega 3 fatty acids and conjugated linoleic acids. The newest research is adding to this understanding and indicates that if the animals are raised on pasture with a diversity of plants available in their diet, that the meat additionally has health-promoting phytonutrients that become concentrated in the meat1. At Hamilton Native Outpost, the bison are raised on pasture with a diverse array of menu choices, so the meat has the capacity to be very nutrient dense with all of the above benefits.
