We are the Spence family located in Green Mountain Missouri, a small family running a cattle ranch.
Our Story
Adam grew up in Florida… Adam always took a liking to horses and knew he wanted to shape his life around them.
At the age of 19 Adam enrolled in farrier school where his journey began. From being trained as a blacksmith his love for this lifestyle grew. He began working at large outfits, dude ranches, feed lots, training stables, apprentice under many other farriers and vets all by the age of 21. Learning the trade of being a true horseman. He worked his way through almost every state from Florida to California and back again for almost two decades. He became well versed in what it takes to run and operate a cattle ranch.
Leah grew up in the Bay Area, but every chance she could she would run to the corner of Northern California where she spent her summers on a thoroughbred horse farm & cattle ranch, learning the ins and outs of raising animals and living off the land!
Leah has always enjoyed farm to table concepts which pushed her to pursue culinary school. She attended Culinary Arts program in Santa Barbara CA.
While learning, cooking in kitchens she missed being closed to animals. She found herself riding horses in the Santa Barbara hills, and Santa Ynez Valley… Where at the time Adam was working as a farrier.
Adam & Leah became close friends for several years before they joined in marriage.
Our Beef
We are located just outside of Mountain Grove Missouri on a Ridge called Green Mountain. The ranch is lucky to have an abundance on large trees for shade and at the bottoms of the hills we have a flowing creek of course when rain permits.
Adam spends most of his days horseback watching over the cattle year round.
Adam being from Florida he believes cattle with a mix of Brahman thrive in these Missouri summers… and hold their heartiness in the winters. We also have an assortment of Angus, Hereford, Charolais, mother cows. However we are working on building the ultimate mixed bred cross for land hardiness and quality beef.
From the start, Spence Livestock has held our transparency, and we want to stay true to our core values. We value cattle husbandry first and foremost and land stewardship.
We are starting a vaccine free program. To insure clean, no hormones, grass fed beef and or finished beef. As we build up our herd to serve you and your family.
